It was low tide on the shores of Sausalito off San Francisco Bay in Marin county where this painting was painted. The glow of the Red canoe and it's atmospheric shadow softened the foreground while in contrast to The Tiburon land mass on the opposite shore. Angel Island is the most distant land mass in the painting.
